Synchronize your iTunes Libraries
For quiet a while I was looking for a tool to synchronize our two iTunes Libraries. The aim is actually to be able to compare both libraries periodically and update them individually. Since all this is not possible with iTunes itself (please have a look at the official forum) there had to be something else.Well, in the beginning I usually just copied all new songs or podcasts from one computer to another. But as the number of new songs is increasing vastly this won't be possible in the future anymore. So I kept looking!
And there you go:
This tool is just lovely! It comes as a simple to use GUI and lets you synchronize Mac2Mac, PC2PC or PC2Mac (Mac2PC didn't work).
All you need to do is to specify the two iTunes Library-indexes (xml-file) and click on compare. SyncOTunes will then read the two files and do a dif on them. Depending on the size of your librariers it will take a short while. Having done that you can now specify which titles/artist syncOTunes should copy from one library to the other.
As soon as your are finished with that you may start the synchroniziation process. That is also quiet simple but in my eyes o.k. and pragramtic: syncOTunes will just create two folders. One for your each library to store the dif.
Now all files that you have selected previously will be copied into the two folders. All you need to do afterwords is importing the folders into the appropriate iTunes Library and you have magically synchronized your iTunes. Isn't that nice? Enjoy!
