IONA offers free MTOSI Toolkit

Today, just during the yearly hold Telemanagement World (TMW) in Nice, France, IONA announced that they are offering a free Multitechnology Operation System Interface (MTOSI) Toolkit. MTOSI is beeing developed by the Telemanagement Forum TMF and widely used in the Telco Industry.

But what is the difference betweend MTOSI and OSS/J?
While MTOSI is a fully standardized and today on XML and WSLD relying standard of the TMF community, OSS/J is a partly Java/J2EE implemenation of MTOSI. Also, the goal of these two sets are different. OSS/J primary focus is to enable an easy integration of Java/J2EE based OSS'. MTOSI on the other hand is designed to be a non technology relying standard. However, MTOSI focus very much on XML and WebService to provide an SOA-like approach.

Jajah.com - cheap phone to phone calls over the Internet

Are you looking for a telecom provider that is offering cheap calls to Indonesia? Now there is a new service out there that offers reasonable rates without using your computer as 'phone'!

It's called Jajah (say "tshatsha") and it's all about making a call over the internet. But in comparison with other internet (or VoIP) phone provider, such as Skype, with Jajah you don't need a broadband internet access and you don't even have to sit in front of your computer during the call. All you need to do is entering your own phone number (from where you want to place the call) and the phone number of the person you want to call. Having done that click on the call button and your call is beeing initiated. After a few seconds your 'calling-from' phone (your home phone) will ring. Pick it up and wait for the other party to pick up the call. That's all!

Synchronize your iTunes Libraries

For quiet a while I was looking for a tool to synchronize our two iTunes Libraries. The aim is actually to be able to compare both libraries periodically and update them individually. Since all this is not possible with iTunes itself (please have a look at the official forum) there had to be something else.
Well, in the beginning I usually just copied all new songs or podcasts from one computer to another. But as the number of new songs is increasing vastly this won't be possible in the future anymore. So I kept looking!

And there you go:

This tool is just lovely! It comes as a simple to use GUI and lets you synchronize Mac2Mac, PC2PC or PC2Mac (Mac2PC didn't work).
All you need to do is to specify the two iTunes Library-indexes (xml-file) and click on compare. SyncOTunes will then read the two files and do a dif on them. Depending on the size of your librariers it will take a short while. Having done that you can now specify which titles/artist syncOTunes should copy from one library to the other.
As soon as your are finished with that you may start the synchroniziation process. That is also quiet simple but in my eyes o.k. and pragramtic: syncOTunes will just create two folders. One for your each library to store the dif.
Now all files that you have selected previously will be copied into the two folders. All you need to do afterwords is importing the folders into the appropriate iTunes Library and you have magically synchronized your iTunes. Isn't that nice? Enjoy!

Google wächst und wächst - die Konkurrenz lernt das Fürchten!

Google wächst munter weiter und lässt alle Befürchtungen einer erneuten Krise hinter sich. Im laufenden Jahr konnte der im Silicon Vally ansässige Konzern den Quartalsgewinn um 60% gegenüber dem Vorjahr steigern.
Verwunderlich ist allerdings, dass Google das Geld nicht mit den Produkten wie etwas die Search-Engine oder Picasa und Google-Calendar verdient. Diese Produkte sind allesamt gratis! Google erwirtschaftet die Gewinne zu 99% mit Werbeeinnahmen, welche Advertiser mit Google AdWords auf Google.com oder auf ausgewählten Seiten schalten könnten.
Darüber hinaus lässt Google aber auch fleissige Blogger oder WebSite-Publisher mit Google AdSense am Erfolg teilhaben. Denn AdSense bietet dem Publisher ein Framework an um die Google AdWords auf seinen Seiten zu platzieren. Somit profitiert der Publisher mit jedem Klick auf die Anzeigen.

Versicherer wollen mit SOA effizienter werden!

Langsam aber sicher zeichnet es sich ab, dass SOA bei den Unternehmen als neue IT-Strategie aufgefasst wird. Dies obwohl SOA in einigen (traditionellen) Branchen, wie z.Bsp. Telekommunikation mit einiger Skepsis betrachtet wird. Oftmals höhre ich, dass es sich bei SOA nur um einen neuen 'Trick' der Beraterbranche handle mit dem sich viel Geld verdienen lasse.

Nun, meine Sicht ist da etwas differenzierter. Natürlich, mit SOA lässt sich, wie mit jeder anderen neuen und erfolgreichen Technologie oder einem Konzept auch, viel Geld verdienen. SOA ist aber im Allgemeinen eine logische Weiterentwicklung der bisherigen Konzepte (CORBA, EAI). Im Speziellen aber ist es die Erkenntnis, dass sich die IT dem Business annähern muss um den Businessbedürfnissen weiterhin (oder überhaupt) gerecht werden zu können.

Als Ziele von SOA werden dann auch Agilität, Flexibilität und Kosteneinsparungen genannt. Dies wird ermöglicht durch konsequente Servicebildung und Standardisierung der Infrastruktur. Eigene Messungen haben ergeben, dass sich mit SOA mindestens 30% Entwicklungs- und Betriebskosten einsparen lassen. Firmen, welche von sich behaupten das SOA-Konzept schon mehrere Jahre anzuwenden, weisen zuweilen auch Einsparungen von über 80% aus. Wie diese zustande kommen ist aber eine andere Geschichte......

Beruhigend ist auf jedenfall, dass die Versicherungsbranche auch von 30% Einsparung ausgeht..(hier weiterlesen)...
